Breathe XR

Breathe XR offers guided breathing exercises in calming virtual environments, using visual and audio cues to support steady breathing and promote mindfulness. Grounded in evidence-based techniques, it helps address anxiety, stress, and sleep challenges—all within immersive, distraction-free settings.

How to Use

  1. Select the application: Use gaze-based control to select the Breathe XR app.
  2. Customize your experience: Use gaze-based control to select an immersive environment, session duration, and breathing rhythm. When you’re ready to begin, select Start.
  3. Follow the visual guide: Follow the visual and audio cues, matching your breathing to the guided rhythm.
  4. Access session controls: Aim the gaze-circle at the hamburger menu (☰) in the upper left corner to expand it. From here, you can see time elapsed, toggle the visual guide on/off, pause your session, or exit to the app lobby.
  5. Exit the application: When you’re ready to leave, aim the gaze-circle at the Quit button in the upper-left corner of the app lobby and hold for 2 seconds. This will return you to the Mynd Home screen.

Controls

  • This app uses gaze-based control – No Hand Controllers needed
  • To select a menu item, move your head to aim the gaze-circle at it and hold for 2 seconds

Breathing Rhythm Options

Choose from one of four classic inhale-hold-exhale-hold breathing rhythms.

  • 4-7-8 (Inhale 4s – Hold 7s – Exhale 8s): Use for anxiety, pain modulation, and sleep preparation
  • 4-4-4-4 (Box Breathing): Use for focus, stress reduction, and return-to-work programs
  • 3-1-6 (Inhale 3s – Hold 1s – Exhale 6s): Use for panic reduction, grounding during anxiety spikes, and speech therapy
  • Deep Inhalation with Breath Hold (DIBH):  Use for thoracic surgery recovery, stroke rehab, radiation treatment, and voice therapy

Tips for Best Experience

  • Use only while seated in a stable chair. Do not stand, walk, or move around while wearing the headset.
  • Use in a clear space to avoid hitting nearby objects.
  • Use in a quiet, comfortable environment ​
  • Start with 5-minute sessions ​
  • Use during stressful moments ​
  • Sit comfortably with good posture
