Puzzling Places

Overview

Puzzling Places is a cognitively stimulating VR application where users assemble 3D models of real-world locations. Through immersive, puzzle-solving gameplay and hands-on interaction, it helps strengthen spatial reasoning, memory recall, and problem-solving skills—all while keeping users actively engaged.

How to Use

Select the application

Move your head to aim the gaze-circle at the Puzzling Places app, then hold for 2 seconds to select it.

Starting a session

Once the app loads, use the Trigger button on the back of either Controller to select a puzzle. To choose the number of puzzle pieces, open the dropdown menu to the right of the puzzle selection screen. When you're ready, select Start to begin.

Puzzling basics

When the activity begins, the puzzle pieces will appear in front of you on the "shelf."

Grab a piece: Aim a Controller at a puzzle piece and press the Trigger to pull it toward you. Keep holding the Trigger to move the piece around. Release the Trigger to drop the piece in place—it will stay there until you pick it up again.

Connect pieces: Bring two pieces close together at the correct connection point and release the Trigger. If aligned properly, they will automatically snap together to form a larger section of the puzzle.

Tip: Look at the reference photos below you to see what the completed puzzle should look like.

Return a piece: To put a piece back on the shelf, hold it and flick the Joystick forward.

Switch shelf tabs: If the puzzle has many pieces, they may be spread across multiple shelf tabs. Flick the Joystick left or right, or select one of the tab circles below the shelf to switch between tabs.

Puzzling tools

The app offers tools to help users organize pieces, adjust their environment, and explore puzzle details more effectively.

All tools are located above the shelf. To use one, aim at it and press the Trigger. To return a tool to the shelf, flick the Joystick forward while holding the tool.

Peek Tool: Drop the Peek Tool (eye icon) onto a large puzzle section to make outer pieces transparent, allowing you to see and place interior pieces more easily.

Grouping Tool: The Grouping Tool (puzzle piece icon) helps you organize puzzle pieces. Drag and drop pieces onto the tool to group them. To remove a piece from the group, simply grab it and move it away.

Styler Tool: The Styler Tool (paintbrush icon) lets you customize the color scheme of your environment. Choose from preset styles or create your own. To reset to the default, select the circular arrow icon.

Tips for Best Experience

  • Use in a clear space to move your arms freely without hitting nearby objects.

  • Take your time—puzzles are designed to be calming and engaging, not rushed.

  • Use the reference images below you to help visualize the completed puzzle.

  • Use the Peek Tool for puzzles with interior sections—it helps you see where inner pieces should go.

Return to menu

When you're ready to exit, aim a Controller at the Home button above the shelf and hold the Trigger for 3 seconds.

Adjusting settings

From the main menu, select the Settings button on the left side of the puzzle selection screen. Here, you can adjust audio levels, hide reference images, customize controls, and more to tailor your puzzling experience.

Exit the application

To exit the app, select the Exit button located on the left side of the puzzle selection screen, then press the Trigger button. This will return you to the Mynd Home screen.
